Lido Magic

For her first foal, Illusionist had been bred in 2009 to the incomparable Somebeachsomewhere. Lido Magic was born in 2010. As a two-year-old in 2012, Lido Magic got a taste of racing. Although she was born with natural skills and instincts, she lacked race enthusiasm, going a slow 2:08. A healthy horse with good feet, Lido would have made it to the track with some stronger urging; instead my husband, Dave, chose another route. With excellent bloodlines, a solid build, and good conformation, Lido Magic held promise as a broodmare.

In February 2017, Lido Magic gave birth to a filly sired by He’s Watching. We named her Shes Magic. One year later in 2018, with the same sire, Lido Magic brought another beautiful foal into the world. We called her Some Lucky Magic. In 2019, Lido Magic foaled out once more. Like her mother Lusi, Lido gave birth to a son after consecutive fillies. Sired by Artspeak, Magical Arthur joined our family in February 2019. After Arthur, Lido took a break from her broodmare role.

In late December 2019, Lido Magic was sold. She moved out to PEI to resume her broodmare career. Her new owners often send pictures of Lido romping and grazing beside the ocean. She’s due to foal again sometime in winter 2021.

In the meantime, Shes Magic made her debut on the big oval in 2019 as a two-year-old. Lido’s first foal has notched two wins so far, one in 2019 and the other in 2020. Some Lucky Magic went to the trainer in 2020 as a two-year-old. Her racing career has yet to unfold. Magical Arthur spends his days and nights in the fields with a bunch of colts at Hillsborough Stables. Lido’s son is expected to move over to the trainer later in 2020.
